Older kids spend a lot of time in their bedrooms. And weak immune systems force kids with cancer to be home quite a bit, so the goal of every room makeover is to create a space they don’t want to leave.
Room makeovers are top-to-bottom projects, complete with new paint, fixtures, furniture and more. Roc Solid learns about each child’s interests and then works with professional interior designers to create bedrooms that reflect each personality.
For many, a new bedroom and the smiles that result bring a renewed sense of hope during the trying journey of fighting cancer.
We are currently completing room makeover projects in southeastern Virginia.
Room makeovers span two days (typically Fridays & Saturdays) with one “prep day” and one “staging day.” Similar to playset builds, the child and his/her family are taken out by limo Saturday for an activity of their choice, and when they return at 12:30 p.m., the new bedroom is revealed.
The reveal is captured by a live stream camera and displayed on a large TV outside so volunteers can experience the moment the child sees his/her new bedroom for the first time. It’s truly an experience you won’t forget.
Sponsor companies can be a part of any or all of the room makeover process. Click here to learn more.
