Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many kids get diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. each year?

Each day in the U.S., 43 children are diagnosed with cancer. That’s nearly 16,000 kids each year. Cancer does not discriminate; it affects kids from all backgrounds, ethnicities and socio-economic groups. That’s why Roc Solid’s vision is to one day build hope for 16,000 kids and families every year.

Q: I know a child with cancer. Can you do a Play It Forward project for him/her?

We typically receive referrals from child life specialists and social workers at children’s hospitals, so that’s the best place to start. Please mention our programs to those people first. If you have further questions, you can contact us any time.

Roc Solid currently has locations in Virginia, North Carolina and Southern California, but we are rapidly expanding and sometimes able to travel for builds if resources allow.

Q: Can I volunteer? Can kids volunteer, too?

Yes, and yes! We are always looking for volunteers to get involved, and you don’t need a construction background or any specific skills to do it. Our projects are turn-key and supervised by experienced build team leaders. We assign tasks to volunteers based on skills, experience and interests. In other words, there’s something for everyone to do.

All of our projects are family friendly and we love having kids on the build sites, so please bring them along! We love working with the “next generation” of hope-builders.

Q: Do you take donations of medical equipment or other items for kids and families in need?

We get this question a lot. And we are happy to ask around, but we will often refer you to another local organization that provides these types of resources to children and families. Let us know if we can point you in the right direction.

Q: I’d like to plan a fundraiser for Roc Solid. Where do I start?

First of all, that’s awesome! If you have something in mind, please contact our Engagement Coordinator, Kelly Durick at [email protected].
