Building on the Foundation of Care—Roc Solid and Allan Myers

“Two of the cornerstones of our Allan Myers culture are care and concern for one another and giving back to the community. Roc Solid speaks to those two characteristics in the very foundation of who you are,” Shannon Moody, Director of Marketing and Communications at Allan Myers, testifies.
That shared value for care is what ignited the relationship between Roc Solid Foundation and Allan Myers. The family-owned construction business keeps family first in everything they do—a shared core value at Roc Solid Foundation. That family focus drove the company to seek charitable initiatives that would result in a tangible, hope-filled experience for both their team members and their communities. That’s when they found Roc Solid.

Allan Myers team members participated in a Ready Bag Packing Party at the Roc Solid warehouse in Chesapeake, VA and were completely hooked on the hands-on team-building experience that made a real impact for families fighting pediatric cancer.
“The employees who have had the opportunity to participate in Ready Bag Packing Parties or playset builds come back super positive about what they’ve done. They appreciate the opportunity to do something valuable outside of the workplace together, building camaraderie,” Shannon shared. The team knew they wanted to bring that same hope to local communities for their other locations.
Delivering hope to families fighting pediatric cancer one Ready Bag at a time
“You show care and concern for families in their most vulnerable times by meeting needs they may not even realize they have with the Ready Bags,” Shannon describes from her experience packing Roc Solid Ready Bags. After hand-packing dozens of Ready Bags and hearing their impact first-hand from families who have received them, Allan Myers wanted to take their impact a step further.

In 2024, Allan Myers partnered with Roc Solid to provide all Ready Bags that are given to families through Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, PA. Thanks to their generous commitment, every family who is diagnosed with pediatric cancer in either hospital in 2024 will receive a Roc Solid Ready Bag full of hospital essentials and the message that they will not fight cancer alone.
“We are looking forward to expanding our relationship in 2024 through supporting Ready Bags for Johns Hopkins,” Shannon explains. “Johns Hopkins is personally meaningful to the Myers family. The company also offers a suite of benefits at Johns Hopkins for our employees. Providing Ready Bags for families fighting pediatric cancer at Johns Hopkins is a new, special way to support.”
BUILDing hope—Allan Myers’ Playset Build

“I took part in our first build with Roc Solid last year. It was one of the hottest days I can remember, but many hands made for light work that day, and we enjoyed every moment,” Shannon recalls memories of the team’s playset project. “I had the honor of nailing the Hope Plaque to the playset and handing off some small gifts we had brought to the family.”

Many happy tears were shed by the volunteers and the family when Jaxon’s playset was revealed in an unforgettable moment filled with hope and powered by community support.
“The sweetest memory was watching Jaxon crawl around his new playset while his parents read to him the messages our builders had written on the playset,” Shannon shares about the special day.

“The playset builds are one step further in providing opportunities for light in times that may be a bit dark for families.”
Thanks to incredible sponsors like Allan Myers, we are thrilled to be reaching more families fighting pediatric cancer with the message of hope and community this year than ever before. We are honored to partner with teams that share the Roc Solid values of family first—like Allan Myers.
“As an 85-year family-owned business, giving back to the communities where we work and where our employees live has always been a central part of our organization. We are happy we made the connection with Roc Solid and look forward to continuing to work together,” Shannon shares on behalf of the entire company.
