Everything You Need to Know about Volunteering at Roc Solid

So you heard about all the hope we build here at Roc Solid and you are wondering how you can be a part of it… let’s get started!

Roc Solid Foundation builds hope for kids fighting cancer nationwide through the power of play. We distribute Ready Bags to families just after they hear the devastating news that their child has cancer, and provide backyard playsets so kids have a safe place to play during treatment. We are currently partnered with over 150 children’s hospitals to distribute Ready Bags, and playsets have been provided to thousands of kids fighting cancer in almost every state across the U.S.

No matter how much time you can commit, or your level of playset-building skills, we have a volunteer opportunity for you! Check out these FAQ’s to learn more about what it can look like for you to become a Roc Solid Volunteer.

1. Where is Roc Solid Foundation located?

Roc Solid Foundation’s national headquarters is located in Chesapeake, VA.

2. Do I have to live in Virginia to volunteer?

No! While many Roc Solid projects are located in the southeastern United States (Virginia to Florida) there are many opportunities to volunteer and be a part of the impact no matter where you are located.

3. How can I volunteer for a playset project?

Our playset program is currently being offered throughout the southeastern United States (Virginia to Florida). We are working hard to reach more families throughout the U.S., and we do occasionally travel to other states for playset builds. While playset projects are sponsored by teams who are given the opportunity to fill all available volunteer positions on their build site, there are occasionally available volunteer positions on playset builds. If you would like to volunteer on a playset build, you can find upcoming playset projects on our volunteer calendar or you can email us at info@rocsolidfoundation.org to be notified if a volunteer opportunity arises in your area.

 4. How can I volunteer if I do not live in a typical playset area?

If you would like to volunteer on a playset project in an area we do not regularly travel to, you can email us at info@rocsolidfoundation.org to be notified if a volunteer opportunity arises in your area.

To learn other ways you or your group can volunteer to help reach more families fighting pediatric cancer, email us at info@rocsolidfoundation.org. Our volunteer coordinator can help identify ways your team can get involved.

5. I don’t know how to build anything! How can I get involved?

That’s ok! Our Build Leaders have created amazing build guides that take you through step by step (and even explain what each bolt and screw is!) You will always have an experienced volunteer with you on each build. We always challenge our volunteers to attempt one build just to see how easy it truly is to build hope. If building really isn’t your thing, you can also volunteer to help with our Ready Bag Packing Parties, host a Roc Solid table at a community event or help capture impactful photos and videos at a Roc Solid event.

6. Is there an age requirement for volunteering?

We have a value here at Roc Solid—families first. All Roc Solid events are always family friendly. Kiddos are always welcome to volunteer with their parents to build playsets, pack Ready Bags, or be a part of any volunteer experience.

7. How much do I need to commit in terms of time, amount of builds I sign up for, etc?

The beauty of Roc Solid is that we are always flexible. While we do have regular monthly opportunities like Warehouse Wednesdays. We do not have any commitment requirements for volunteers. You can volunteer as much or as little as you would like!

8. Where can I find out about volunteer opportunities in my area?

Our Volunteer Opportunities Calendar is constantly updated with volunteer opportunities. Take a look!

9. If I have a group (soccer team, school club, etc.) that wants to volunteer for a Roc Solid project, what are my options?

That’s awesome! If your group is eager to volunteer but is unable to financially sponsor a project, there are still opportunities to make an impact. Groups local to the Chesapeake, VA area can host a Ready Bag item drive or attend a Warehouse Wednesday. Groups outside of our local area can email us at info@rocsolidfoundation.org to find specific ways you can help.

We also have a unique Warehouse Wednesday event every month exclusively for middle and highschool students. Sign up for an Emerging Leaders Warehouse Wednesday on our  Volunteer Opportunities Calendar. We are happy to sign off on documented volunteer hours spent with us to help students work toward community service hours by building hope!

10. I am a Roc Solid family and my kiddo has received a Ready Bag and/or a playset… what are the unique ways that we can volunteer?

We love that you want to get involved! Roc Solid families are welcome to be a part of any Roc Solid project if there are volunteer positions available. Please reach out to us at info@rocsolidfoundation.org so we can find an opportunity for you.
